It looks like Spain will be the next European country offering a residency visa for digital nomads working freelance or remotely for a foreign company. While all the details have yet to be finalized, it’s stated that the visa will last for one year and can renewed for up to five years. Because Spain wants to attract skilled foreign workers, the visa also comes with a considerable tax break: 15 percent versus the usual 25 percent.
However, there will naturally be requirements. For instance, you will have to prove you’re self-sufficient. The government hasn’t announced official figures yet, but judging by other similar EU visas, you’ll likely need proof of health insurance and a monthly income of around €3,000.
In Mallorca specifically, hoteliers are enthusiastic that the visa could help increase revenue in the off season. They may develop longterm stay option to attract digital nomads.
The Spanish government originally announced that they would start issuing the visa in 2022, though there is still no official start date.
