The Ultimate 2025 Guide to Vegan and Vegetarian Dining in Mallorca

On an island where jamón, sobrasada, and fuet are king, it may seem like a bleak life for vegetarian foodies. Even many of the Mallorquín pastries are not safe for the vegan or vegetarian consumer, as they are often made with saïm (pork lard).

But don’t let this deter you – many of Mallorca’s residents are switching to a plant-forward diet, or at least plant-forward dining. The movement is tangible, in my last couple of years living on the island, I feel like I pass by a new “Go Vegan!” graffiti sign each week. From quaint local cafes serving up the traditional Mediterranean fare to innovative restaurants putting a creative spin on vegan cuisine, this island has something for every plant-based traveller. As the global demand for vegan and vegetarian food grows, Mallorca has embraced this trend wholeheartedly.

In this guide, I’ll focus on my top must-visit vegan and vegetarian restaurants, at various price points, that will make your stay in Mallorca both memorable and delicious. I’ll focus on restaurants located in Palma‘s Old Town, the popular Santa Catalina neighbourhood, a couple of seaside dineries, and I’ll even throw in some tips for finding vegan and vegetarian treasures outside of the traditional restaurant walls.

Restaurants in Palma’s Old Town

Ca n’Ela Vegan Restaurant

Situated in the heart of Palma’s historic Old Town, just a five-minute stroll from the iconic Palma Cathedral, Ca n’Ela is a charming vegan restaurant that blends tradition with plant-based innovation. As the first vegan restaurant I went to in Palma, Ca n’Ela holds a special place in my heart.

The restaurant’s fixed menu has vegan classics, filled with imaginatively prepared vegetables, as well as various seasonal soups, salads, pastas, and burgers. However, what made this place stand out to me is its menú del día. For those of you unaware, menú del día is a popular Spanish concept, in which restaurants offer a couple of courses (usually with a drink as well) for a fixed price. This can be a great way to enjoy the classic large and long Spanish lunches in a budget-friendly way.

Ca n’Ela’s menú del día includes a first course, in which you can choose between a salad or a juice, a second course, in which you choose between two soups, two options for a main course, two options for your dessert, all for 19 €. Considering everything included, especially since fine vegan dining can land on the pricier side of things, this is an excellent deal and a great way to try a variety of their dishes.

Their menu changes each month, so you’ll have a whole new set of options when you come back next! If you’re ordering from their main menu, the starters have an average cost of 10 €, and the main courses are between 15 € and 20 €.

Due to the popularity of their menú del día, their small space, and their prime location in old town, Ca n’Ela can fill up quickly and I would advise that you make a reservation in advance.

While not an exclusively vegetarian restaurant, I could not make this list without mentioning my favorite sandwich shop on the island, Es Badaluke. When I first moved to Palma, I was a bit disappointed that the options for vegetarian sandwiches didn’t seem to stretch far past a cheese and tomato bocadillo. This sandwich shop completely changed that for me. Es Badaluke has an extensive menu of imaginative and delicious sandwiches, with half of their options being vegetarian or vegan. Also located in the heart of Palma’s old town, this shop has a mom and pop feel to it and is super affordable, which can be difficult to find in this area of the city, with sandwiches priced between 4 € and 6 €.

In stark contrast to so many other sandwich shops in Spain, the biggest difficulty a vegetarian or vegan will have at Es Badaluke is choice overload – my personal favorite is the “IRONNA” which consists of vegan sobrassada, pickled eggplant, and arugula. Aside from sandwiches, Es Badaluke also offers a variety of customizable salads, prepared appetizers, and delicious juices. They also have a display of local artwork and events that make you feel integrated within the Mallorquín community.

Exploring Beyond the Restaurants

While these eight restaurants are highlights of Mallorca’s vegan and vegetarian dining scene, there are many other places worth exploring. Local markets, such as the Mercat de l’Olivar and Mercat de Santa Catalina in Palma, offer an abundance of fresh produce, where you can pick up local fruits, vegetables, and artisanal vegan products.

If you’re staying in self-catering accommodation, the island’s organic shops and health food stores are great places to stock up on vegan staples like plant-based milk, snacks, and more. My personal favorite health food store on the island is Natura, which provides a variety of vegan and vegetarian products as well as dietary supplements.

Conclusion

With this guide, you now have a roadmap to some of the best vegan and vegetarian spots on Mallorca. Whether you’re planning a quick getaway or an extended stay, these restaurants will provide delicious, ethical, and eco-friendly meals that will make your trip even more enjoyable.
