Mallorca has long been one of the top destinations for family vacations; yet, many families who visit the island don’t get to enjoy the full gamut of activities available. When you get away from the all-inclusive resorts, Mallorca is full of parks and attractions that are fun for the whole family and kids of all ages.
As a father of twin toddlers who’s lived here for nearly a decade, I’ve spent a lot of time tracking down the best activities for families in Mallorca. Below, I’ve divided them into the best for younger kids and the best for kids over six. Some will overlap, so just take into account your personal family’s needs and preferences, and you’ll make the most out of this family-friendly island.
The Best Activities For Kids Under 6
Palma Aquarium
As a father of two twin toddlers, the Palma Aquarium is a lifesaver. Glittering fish, multiple kids’ zones, live demonstrations and, of course, the sharks, make for a much better way to spend a Saturday than screen time.
Divided into various zones, the Aquarium’s attractions range from a small tank of clown fish your kids can climb up inside to massive tanks of tropical giants that captivate my 18-month-olds. Aside from live exhibits, Zone 6 is dedicated to whales with scientific displays like a human-sized baby bottle representing what a whale calf drinks every day. The 3D cinema is located in the same section offering educational films.
Zones 3 and 4 are basically kid-friendly outdoor parks near the on-site cafe. The giant pirate ship is always a hit with older kids.
Zone 7 is where the Aquarium culminates: Big Blue, one of Europe’s largest and deepest shark tanks full of tiger and nurse sharks in addition to rays, barracuda and other fish. While my toddlers care less about the sharks than, say, the jellyfish tank that changes colors, it’s a big draw for older kids.
There are various activities you can do involving Big Blue as well:
- Shark Vision Boat: Ride a glass-bottom boat over the top of Big Blue and see the sharks from above.
- Dive with sharks: You can scuba dive in Big Blue with or without a scuba license, though a license will allow you to reach the full depth.
- Sleep with the sharks: A school field trip classic on Mallorca, you can have a sleepover while sharks menacingly glide overhead.
Finally, there are the various interactive zones and live demonstrations. Throughout the aquarium, experts perform science experiments or provide exhibitions of marine phenomena. Many exhibits are hands-on and interactive.
Tickets to the Aquarium are very reasonable, just €30.50 for adults and €19.50 for kids, with those under three years old free. There is a resident discount as well, but if you’re a resident, I highly recommend the annual Ocean Pass. Adults are €60 and kids €45. Even with the resident discount, this is the cheaper option if you visit at least four times during the year.
Plus, the Ocean Pass gives you discounts within the aquarium and around Mallorca. Shopping malls, ferry lines, even the Hard Rock Cafe. If you live here, it’s more than worth it.
Natura Parc
Natura Parc is your zoo option in Mallorca. Located just a 20-minute drive outside of Palma, it has a diverse array of over 500 wild and domestic species housed in an easily accessible facility that’s fun for little kids, older kids and adults alike.
In reality, this “zoo” is an animal refuge, homing or rehabilitating mistreated and injured animals. This includes the flagship attraction: two large tigers. Of course, my one-year-olds were more interested in the goats as well as the many bird species, some of which roam the pathways uncaged. Watching the monkeys dart back and forth was a big hit, too.
Toddlers also enjoy the “toca-toca” petting zoo, which includes small domestic animals. Another fun amenity is the lemur zone, where you can interact up close with the Madagascarian primates. There are options for birthdays and other events as well.
All in all, Natura Parc is an affordable way to spend a Saturday while supporting nature conservation and enjoying wildlife. An adult ticket is just €15, children €9, and infants under two get in free. There are resident discounts as well.
Tribu Parc Infantil
Tribu Parc is a hidden gem for parents on the outskirts of Palma. It’s not just for little kids but big kids too, with two separate sections for children over and under three years old. In between, there’s a cafe for the parents as well as a cushy reading nook.
The under-three zone has blocks, a small ball pit with a slide and other toys geared towards toddlers. It’s ideal if your little ones already know how to walk, and please don’t let your older kids play in this zone. Those kids have plenty to do in their zone, which features large tunnels and slides, ball pits and trampolines.
Tribu Parc is an inexpensive way to keep your kids busy and active for an afternoon. An hour is just €5 for kids under three and €7 for those over three. You can just show up, but I usually make a reservation online.
Dinosaurland
What little kid doesn’t love dinosaurs? Dinosaurland is like a Jurassic Park just for kids except, you know, the dinosaurs aren’t alive and hungry. Basically, it’s a large park with life-size animatronic models of real dinosaur species along with restaurants and cafes and an “Explorer Zone” with hands-on activities.
If you have older kids or if your younger kids are more adventurous or really interested in science, I recommend getting the combined tickets for entry to Coves del Drach as well. A full review is below, but this easily walkable cave involves an optional boat ride on the mesmerizing underground river below.
Dinosaurland is in Manacor, meaning it’s about an hour’s drive from Palma. However, if you’re staying on the east side of the island, it’s much more accessible. Tickets are €18 for adults or €12 for kids 3-12. Children under three enter free. Alternatively, if you get the combined Dinosaurland and cave experience, it’s €25 for adults and €19 for kids.
Tren de Sóller
The Tren de Sóller is a tourist train that travels through the scenic Tramuntana Mountains before arriving in the picturesque town of Sóller. From there you can optionally take a tram down to Port de Sóller, an equally beautiful town with a sandy beach idea for families, a tranquil boardwalk, restaurants and shops.
The train is great for families because the adults will appreciate the views while the little ones go wild for the novelty of riding on an old-timey train. They’ll love gazing out the windows at the Mallorcan countryside, passing through tunnels and exploring the antique cars.
The Tren de Sóller leaves from its own station next to the Estació Intermodal across from Plaza España. It can get pretty busy, especially during peak tourist season in the summer, so I recommend reserving tickets online. You can only do this for the round-trip combined train and tram tickets that take you to the port. However, I recommend this anyway because the port is arguably more fun for children than Sóller itself, and you can still take some time to enjoy the mountain town before catching the tram.
This full ticket is €40, though there are usually offers for non-peak hours for €32.
The Best Activities For Kids 6 And Up
Palma Jump
Get your workout in while giving your kids the time of their lives. Palma Jump is an indoor trampoline park with numerous zones including a free zone filled with nearly 30 flat trampolines, an extreme zone for more daring jumps, a slackline area, a gladiator foam pit for fighting your friends, a dunk zone where you can feel like an NBA star, and various inflatables. Now they even have a challenging Ninja Warrior obstacle course and Bar Jump, a cafe for those who want to take a break.
While I’d mainly recommend Palma Jump for kids over six, toddlers and younger kids can have fun too. There are even special prices for parent-child sessions for kids under five.
Other activities include professional classes, summer camps and birthday parties. On Fridays, there are even raves at the “Jump Zone disco,” which are ideal for pre-teens and young adolescents. Just €15 for two hours of jumping plus snacks.
Standard tickets are €12.50 on weekdays and €13 on the weekends for the first hour and €7 for every hour after that. You can also get various packs with discounts.
Coves del Drach
Les Coves del Drach, or the “Caves of the Dragon,” is a system of large, walkable caves near Porto Cristo on the eastern coast of Mallorca. The area accessible to tourists reaches over 80 feet (25 meters) underground and includes nearly a mile (1,200 meters) of pathways. These paths take you through a spectacular labyrinth of stalactites and geological structures ending in one of the world’s largest underground lakes where you can take an optional boat ride.
The mysterious thrill of the caves is ideal for older kids, but some younger kids will certainly enjoy it too. That said, I wouldn’t recommend it for toddlers due to the slippery stone pathways and steps. To make it an ideal trip for kids under 6, you can get a combined ticket for Dinosaurland.
Located near Porto Cristo, the caves are a bit far from Palma. About an hour. It’s a better choice for residents or those staying on the east side of the island. You should reserve tickets online because this comes with a discount.
- Adults: €17.50
- Kids: €10.50
- Combined with Dinosaurland, it’s €25 for adults and €19 for kids.
Jungle Parc
Jungle Parc is a great way to get your kids active and outdoors, something increasingly hard to do these days. It’s a massive tree park—one of the largest in Spain—featuring obstacle courses and ziplines for a grand total of four circuits and 154 games.
Located in Santa Ponsa, it’s easily accessible from Palma and many of the nearby resorts. You reserve a time in one-hour blocks, and the park is open from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM, though keep in mind the ticket office closes at 5 PM, 4 PM for groups.
Ticket prices depend on the courses you want to do, which are rated by age and difficulty.
- Extreme: Age 12+, €22
- Explorer: Age 10+, €22
- Pirates: Age 4+, €16
- Family-Zen: Age 4+, €16
There are also combo packs that combine courses as well as group discounts. For more than 10 people, there is a discount of €2 per person. For more than 20 people, there is a discount of €3 per person.
Katmandu Park
Katmandu is arguably the only true theme park in Mallorca. There aren’t any large roller coasters, but there is an exciting theme as well as a splash park equipped with waterslides and fountains, interactive simulations in the XD Theatre, a fun house, a miniature golf course and much more.
It’s in a great location in Magaluf near extensive amenities. If you’re staying in or around Magaluf, it’s easily accessible from hotels and close to the beach so you can make the most of your vacation beyond the waterpark.
Tickets are €30 for adults and €21 for kids 3-12. There are resident discounts as well.
Waterparks
While Mallorca has few theme parks aside from Katmandu, it has numerous waterpark options across the island. Whether you live in Mallorca or are just visiting, the Mediterranean summer is the perfect time to hit the water slides and let loose.
Western Water Park
Western Water Park is arguably the most famous on the island. It features tons of adrenaline-pumping water slides like “The Beast,” “Grand Canyon”, and “Boomerang.”
Tickets are cheaper online:
- Adult: €34
- Child 5-10: €26
- Child 3-4: €15
- Senior 65+: €28
There’s also a family pack for two adults and two children for €112 that saves you a few Euros.
Aqualand
Aqualand is located in S’Arenal, making it the most accessible for those staying in Palma or in the resort areas around Playa de Palma and the airport. The all water slides aren’t just fun but uniquely themed and architecturally interesting.
Like Western Park, tickets are cheaper online:
- Adult: €35
- Child 5-10: €27
- Child 3-4: €16
- Senior 65+: €29
A family pack is €116.
Hidropark
Located in Alcudía, Hidropark is ideal because it’s near a lot of other family-friendly amenities and resorts, not to mention the best beach for families: Playa del Muro. It’s fun, colorful and a place to make memories with kids of all ages.
Hidropark has a different ticketing scheme. In some cases, you can get a discount for booking online, but that’s only possible one day prior. There are resident discounts as well. The ticket office prices are:
Ticket | Age | Normal Price | Resident Price |
Adult | 11-60 | €34 | €17 |
Child | 3-10 | €25 | €15 |
Infant | 0-2 | FREE | FREE |
Senior | 60+ | €25 | €15 |
Season passes and family packs are also available.
